American Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology

Description

American Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology is a peer-reviewed open access journal that publishes original research / review articles on drug action in all the areas of pharmacology and toxicology including in vivo and in vitro metabolism, intracellular metabolism and intracellular regulation. Articles on effects of radiations, drug composition and properties, drug-drug interactions, pharmacokinetic and in vivo imaging of drug distribution are also encouraged. AJPT is a quarterly publication available both in print and online and is an authentic source of information on Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Letter from the Editor in Chief

Pharmacology and toxicology have evolved to scientific disciplines from human activities almost 7000 years old. It has always been a human attempt to identify new therapeutics from natural product sources, while learning their limitation and side effects the hard way. They became recognized disciplines only at the beginning of the 19th century, with the increasing tendency to explore the action of drugs and natural extracts on tissue and organ functions, as well as their use as tools to understand the origin of diseases.

From those times, the exponential increase of understanding of receptor and targets, from organ to cellular to nuclear levels has driven the research in these fields. With the advent of molecular biology and the use of technology platforms, pharmacology and toxicology seemed to have lost their role of integrative disciplines. Most recently, the need to go back to “the big picture” has characterize a new attention waive to pharmacology and toxicology, with the creation of disciplines, such as quantitative and system pharmacology or translational pharmacology, which encase concepts that have always been the basis of “classical” pharmacology and toxicology.

In these new times, I am excited to join American Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology (AJPT) as Editor in Chief. AJPT was launched as open access journal in March 2006 and meanwhile has become truly international, publishing original articles and reviews from all over the world including countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, and America.

My mission is to promote AJPT as a key title in the field, publishing papers of outstanding quality covering all the multifaceted aspects of pharmacology and toxicology, from target identification to pharmaco- and toxico-kinetics, from drug-drug interaction to non-clinical regulatory and human toxicology and, to keep faith to the origins of the discipline, to the actions of natural extracts. My hope is that AJPT will continue to grow and to provide excelling information to everybody in these fields.

I like to take this opportunity to invite scientists and clinicians from all over the world to submit their manuscripts to AJPT and to contribute in this way to spread the knowledge in pharmacology and toxicology.
