This paper presents a peer assessment model which was applied to students enrolled in a generic computing skills course. In order to measure the effectiveness of this proposed model, students had to evaluate their colleagues based on predefined criteria and a comparison is presented between the lecturer assessments and the peer assessments. The peer assessment model was evaluated and the results presented demonstrate that the peer assessment model is a successful process to be adopted in teaching generic skills.
