NVH performance has been recognized as a critical factor in the purchase decisions of many buyers. This study examines the vibro-acoustic characteristics of some monolithic and composite materials and some generally periodic material structures. By experimental and numerical/empirical methods, it explores some opportunities for minimizing the transmission of noise and vibration. Some new constructions not hitherto probed for vibro-acoustic fitness are examined. Results from this study are expected to contribute towards design inputs to obtain better performances.
